Conklin Elementary School Expansion
Rockford, IL | Under Construction
As part of Rockford Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to providing globally focused, future-ready education, Conklin Elementary School is expanding to become a full International Baccalaureate (IB) school serving students through junior high.
Building on its success as an IB Candidate School for grades K–5, the program has already extended to sixth grade and will soon welcome 7th and 8th graders beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.
Project-Based Learning

A new, purpose-built facility will anchor this next phase of growth. Connected to the existing elementary school, the expansion includes a new gymnasium, cafeteria, offices, and classrooms, along with dedicated spaces for art, music, and a makerspace that support the school’s inquiry-driven learning model. Designed to foster independence, creativity, and curiosity, the new environment encourages exploration and hands-on engagement in every subject area.
With completion set for 2026, the expansion will provide a seamless K–8 experience that equips students to think critically, communicate globally, and thrive as lifelong learners.
